Job description

Fountains Forestry has been managing woodland in the UK since 1957. We provide expert services in all aspects of forest and associated land management, including acquisition and brokerage of forest and woodland properties.

Our team of professional forest managers work closely with forest and woodland owners to help them achieve their management objectives, and the sustainability of their woodlands, through sound forest management advice and best practice in silvicultural and operating procedures.

Today, we are part of the F & W Forestry Services Group which globally manages approximately 900,000 hectares (over 2 million acres) of forests and woodland throughout North America, South America, the UK, and France.

The Position

Throughout Wales we are looking to build our client portfolio through the expansion of services including new woodland creation. Due to recent business growth we are seeking to recruit an Assistant Forest Manager to help with the management of an existing portfolio of retained clients’ woodlands throughout Mid and North Wales, and help deliver woodland creation projects as they arise.

Reporting to the existing Area Manager for Wales, you will carry out site appraisals and surveys, supervise forest operations on the ground, and contribute to the planning and implementation of certified woodland management plans. You will have good communication and computer skills including, at least, a basic knowledge of GIS mapping techniques. You will have a sound technical forestry knowledge, commensurate with experience, and a good understanding of current issues within the industry, including grant regimes relating to Woodland Creation.

Ideally the candidate will be a Welsh speaker and be located in Mid or North Wales. The role will involve hybrid working from a “home office” and office location, but a considerable proportion of time will be spent out on site.  A full UK driving licence will be required.

We are looking for candidates who are highly motivated, confident, enthusiastic and reliable, with a “can-do” attitude.

This role will provide an ideal first, or second, step into a career in forest management with training and mentoring from an experienced management team. You will ideally be a member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body or working towards membership.

In return we will offer you a competitive and attractive salary and benefits package.

Closing Date: 5 July 2024
