The UK Government’s announcement that forestry has been removed from the scope of the Gangmaster Licensing Authority (GLA) has been welcomed broadly across the whole of the forestry sector.
The announcement comes on the back of a sustained campaign led by Confor to remove the GLA remit from forestry, which is unaffected by the problems associated with casual workers that the GLA was set up to rectify.
The removal of forestry from the scope of the GLA was hailed by ICF President Fenning Welstead FICFor as “excellent news” and has been greeted with delight by forestry professionals, many of whom were critical of the GLA’s involvement in this well-regulated sector.
More reaction to the day’s events from Confor’s Chief Executive Stuart Goodall.
