Boconnoc is one of Cornwall’s most important veteran tree landscapes, supporting a remarkable collection of ancient and veteran trees alongside an internationally important lichen flora associated with long ecological continuity.

Aran Kimberlee is one of the UK’s few arborists to hold both the VETcert Practising Level and VETcert Consulting Level qualifications. Aran has undertaken work on a number of Boconnoc’s veteran trees to support their long-term retention and resilience. He will demonstrate how veteran tree management can be used to create and enhance habitat features for bats, birds and other wildlife, while conserving ancient and veteran trees for future generations.

Peter Topham MICFor will discuss the funding mechanisms available to support the conservation of ancient and veteran trees. Drawing on practical experience, he will explore how consultants can identify opportunities, develop fundable prescriptions in collaboration with landowners and stakeholders, and secure investment in veteran tree management that delivers benefits for biodiversity, cultural heritage and long-term landscape resilience.
