In response to many climatic factors and the increased impact of pests and diseases, it is advisable to look beyond the traditional palette of forestry species and spread the risk. During this #MembersHour, David will explore what the implications and considerations are around the selection of Emerging Forestry Species for afforestation and restocking.

David White MICFor – Woodland & Climate Change Adaption Adviser, Forestry Commission
David joined the Forestry Commission in 1990 and has worked in West Sussex, Sherwood, Scottish Borders, Forest of Dean and Forest Services in East Midlands. In recent years he has been the Woodland and Climate Change Adaptation Adviser in the Policy and Advice team of the Forestry Commission. David has a keen interest in the use of climate adapted tree species in forestry and has planted a one-hectare experimental wood comprised of what could be described as Emerging Forestry Species.
