The ICF Team at the 2014 Royal Welsh Show.

The Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) will host its annual Forestry and Arboricultural Careers Fair at the 2015 Royal Welsh Show, taking place 20-23 July in Powys. The event will showcase the range of careers and courses available across the UK, and provide interactive display of forestry tools and forest specimens.

ICF will be joined by representatives of a number of higher education institutes providing information on study options and routes to a professional career in the forestry sector. These include Bangor University, Harper Adams University, the Scottish School of Forestry (Inverness College UHI) and the University of Cumbria. Other key forestry institutions in attendance will be the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research, and the Royal Forestry Society.

Employment Opportunities

The Institute’s President David Henderson Howat FICFor, who will also be attending Day 2 of the event, highlighted the wealth of employment opportunities currently available in this sector. He said:

“Although forestry and arboriculture represent fairly small sectors of the UK economy, they are of growing importance in some parts of the country and there is currently concern about attracting high calibre new entrants, including graduates, to meet future needs.

“With such an abundance of employment opportunities in forestry and arboriculture at the moment, we are strongly encouraging anyone interested in land-based, environmental or scientific career to come and visit the ICF careers fair at the Royal Welsh Show.”
