Forestry Commission Director General to Retire in the New Year
Tim Rollinson CBE, Director General of the Forestry Commission for the last nine years, will be retiring at the end of January 2013. Forestry Commission Wales will become part of a new body from 1 April 2013, and the position of Director General will be replaced with new management and governance arrangements for the Forestry Commission across GB and in England.

“Tim has done a tremendous job through a period of extraordinary change. He has kept the Forestry Commission strong and purposeful as forestry responsibilities have been increasingly devolved to each country, championing the organisation’s world-leading science and forestry expertise, but also enabling closer links with the three governments to be fostered.
“He has also brought sustainable forestry to a global stage and shown great leadership on the protection of forests from the impacts of climate change, pests and diseases. We will miss his pragmatism, his expertise and his integrity.”

“I have been immensely proud to lead such a skilled and dedicated organisation through a challenging period. With the creation of a new environment body in Wales and the Government responding to the Independent Forestry Panel’s report, next year will be a natural time for me to leave the Forestry Commission.
“I have overseen a continued devolution of our work to the countries and I know I will be leaving the organisation in very capable hands.”
Tim is leading the transition to new management and governance arrangements for the Forestry Commission. He is also leading Forestry Commission England’s input to the Government’s response to the Independent Panel on Forestry’s final report, which is expected in January 2013.
Forestry Commission England will recruit a country Director to lead them through transition following the Government’s response to the Independent Panel on Forestry’s final report. Central and shared services will be run by a new Director of Central Services and more on this will be announced shortly.
