Job description

About the role

Working in a highly professional and respected team you will be responsible for handling TPOs and working closely with the Council’s planning service ensuring compliance with legislation.  East Devon is heavily wooded with a wonderful array of ancient and veteran trees – an arboriculturalist’s paradise – and the role will entail safeguarding the integrity of trees within Conservation Areas and on development sites. Along with your team colleagues you will also provide advice and guidance to the towns and parishes and our Elected Members on arboricultural matters.

About you

We are looking for someone who has an enthusiasm for identifying, inspecting and recording the condition of trees, and a sound knowledge of tree species and characteristics.  You must hold a recognised qualification in arboriculture and have practical experience in tree inspection and management. We need you to be well organised and a good communicator. You must also be able to work independently and hold a valid driving licence (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act), as the role involves attending site inspections throughout the district.

About us

Our last Local Government Association Peer Challenge highlighted that “EDDC is a great place to work, with engaged staff and members” — and we couldn’t agree more. You’ll be joining an organisation that puts people at the heart of everything we do, working collaboratively with our communities to deliver high‑quality services and create an outstanding place to live, work, visit and enjoy. With a strong focus on wellbeing, a highly flexible and supportive hybrid Worksmart approach, and a commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be confident of joining a workforce culture where colleagues are empowered to be Happy, Healthy and Here.
