What we do

We are a leading, consultancy-only practice with a passion for trees, committed to professionalism, integrity, innovation and problem-solving, operating mainly in the areas of planning and development, tree risk management and expert witness services.

Working at the highest level, we have a wide range of interesting and exciting projects and prestige clients mainly within the UK but sometimes farther afield (we have worked on projects in France, Spain, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, India, and USA).  With an international reputation for our work and approach, we regularly deliver workshops and conference presentations across the world.

What you will do

Depending on your entry level and experience, you will work closely with our Senior Consultants to assist, with increasing autonomy in the following:

  • Site visits – to include data capture, identification and classification of trees (BS 5837 and/or for tree risk management) and ‘watching brief’ site supervision during construction activities
  • Manipulating/processing & analysing data – to support analysis, reports and plans, including, tree constraints and opportunities, arboricultural impact appraisals, arboricultural method statements, CAVAT valuations, canopy cover assessment and tree risk management
  • Client liaison – attending meetings with clients and their other professionals, co-ordinating site visits, progression of development proposals and gathering necessary input materials
  • Contractor liaison – co-ordinating tree work tenders, liaising with clients and instructing treework on their behalf, reviewing completed treework standard and approving invoices for client payment
Making tree work applications/appeals – usually in support of tree risk management
  • Report writing – initially collaborating and eventually producing your own reports
  • Plan preparation – working with our QGIS and AutoCAD technicians to prepare plans for reports and meetings

The above list is a flavour of activities and duties, but is not exhaustive, and other opportunities may arise, including assisting with workshops if you are interested.  You will be encouraged to attend at least one relevant conference each year and other training opportunities.

What skills, qualifications & experience you need

Some practical experience will be very useful, as a minimum you will have a Level 4 qualification in arboriculture or forestry (or at least be part-way through that qualification – we will consider contribution to funding).  Critical skills will include excellent verbal and written communication skills, IT-literate and comfortable with Office 365. We will train you to use QGIS and other relevant software. You will need to be solution-driven, customer-focused, have an eye for detail and enjoy working as part of a team.

Why join us

This is a rare opportunity to work with an experienced team of Arboricultural Association Registered Consultants, Fellows and Members of the Institute of Chartered Foresters who are generous with their time, their considerable knowledge, and experience, and share our drive to develop your career.
