Job description

City of Trees is a growing team and we’re looking for a Contract Manager to join our new in-house contractor team to help us on our mission to create a greener, more resilient Greater Manchester. We are to transforming the landscape across the region, by planting and looking after millions of trees to help tackle the climate emergency and support green recovery.  In doing so, we aim to improve the quality of life for people through our Citizen Forester volunteering offer and green jobs & skills.  There is so much going on right now – it’s a fantastic time to join the team!

This is a new and varied role, working in a busy environmental charity where the successful candidate needs to be experienced and confident in all aspects of contract management, and have a strong understanding of delivering forestry projects.  We’re looking for someone with the right people skills to lead and manage our brand new in-house contractor team to deliver our tree planting and woodland management work.

Our new contractor team is currently small (5 people) but this is likely to grow in the future.  We’re very keen to bring people from a non-forestry background into urban forestry and these recruits/ placements will make up some of the contracting team.  So, we’re looking for someone who is both passionate about Manchester’s urban forestry and supporting our green jobs agenda.

The new contractor team will be working on woodland and tree establishment in both the urban and rural environment. City of Trees is also responsible for the maintenance of many new and recently planted sites, and the contractor team will be ensuring those sites are looked after. Management activities within existing woodlands may also become part of the teams remit.

The successful candidate, if not already chartered, will be encouraged to work towards chartered status.
