Job description

As the largest integrated forestry business in the UK, and a member of binderholz – Europe’s leading timber processing operation – BSW Group is a rapidly developing multisite business, with a turnover in excess of £650m and operations spanning forestry, sawmilling, timber manufacturing and energy.

Tilhill has, over the last 70+ years, planted more than 1 billion trees and, as a private company, has the greatest number of professionally qualified managers. We specialise in woodland creation and management, timber harvesting and buying, and landscaping. We strive at all times to provide an unrivalled service to our clients and customers.

Tilhill is at the forefront of the provision of nature-based solutions that help fight climate change in the most natural way.

We have an exciting opportunity for you to be a key member of our Yorkshire & North-East England Area team in the role of Forest Manager/Senior Forest Manager, depending
on experience.

The success of the Yorkshire & North-East England team is partly down to the diversity of clients with which we engage, which includes landed estates, private forestry investors and investment funds, individual and family farmers, national parks, charitable organisations, utility companies and local councils.

The role involves providing a high-quality woodland management service, building and maintaining professional client, supplier, contractor and stakeholder relationships and, day to day, the preparation of client budgets, production of reports, implementation and control of work programmes and grant applications.

Key to your success in the role will be working with local teams, including forestry, business development, forest investment and harvesting to manage and grow a successful portfolio of forestry clients, maximizing the quality of the client experience and profit generated.

About you

As an experienced forestry professional, with a background in forestry (or other related sector), you are able to demonstrate your strong commercial acumen and ability to build and maintain strong working relationships. In addition, you’ll have:

  • Strong commercial and client relationship skills
  • Good knowledge of upland and farm forestry silviculture.
  • Work constructively with multidisciplinary teams across wider company.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Business development experience (desirable).
  • Good knowledge of the UK Forestry Standard and UKWAS (desirable).
  • Good knowledge of England Forestry Commission and Natural England Grant Schemes (desirable).
  • Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body (desirable).

If you are excited and highly motivated by the opportunity to nurture the team and grow the significant potential that sits within one of the UK’s most dynamic forestry regions, then this role is for you.
