Job description

As a Forestry Consultant, you will play a key role in ensuring forestry considerations are addressed within the planning and development process. Our consultancy team works with developers and lead environmental consultancies to provide forestry input on infrastructure projects such as overhead power lines, wind farms and renewable energy developments.

Every project is unique, but typical responsibilities will include:

  • Forestry Impact Assessments
  • Planning & EIA Support
  • Mapping & Analysis
  • Mitigation & Compensatory Planting
  • Tree Crop Compensation (TCC)
  • Client Liaison

Alongside planning-related consultancy, you will also, for some projects, play an important part in ensuring smooth handover for the delivery of tree clearance works for the consented project to our Infrastructure division, supporting delivery for the forestry element of the overall project.

About You

You will have the following:

  • Diploma or Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, or a related rural subject
  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in forestry, ecology, or consultancy (experience with FGS and /or planning-related forestry consultancy)
  • Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body is desirable
  • Understanding of UK Forestry Standards (UKFS), relevant planning/forestry legislation
  • A desire to develop experience preparing technical reports in support of planning applications and EIAs
  • Proficiency in GIS for mapping and analysis
  • Knowledge of tree surveying and hazard/risk assessment methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills in order to manage multiple projects
  • Full UK driving licence, with flexibility to travel across Scotland and Northern England

In return we can offer a highly competitive salary package and other staff benefits.

This is a unique opportunity to join a consultancy team at an exciting stage of our growth, working on nationally significant renewable energy infrastructure projects where your expertise directly influences planning outcomes and sustainable woodland management.
