FLS is looking for a Regional Manager to lead our East Region team. The Regional Manager provides strong strategic leadership, motivates and inspires a large multi-disciplinary team who co-ordinate, plan and implement work across the public land in the East of Scotland. The postholder also manages a large budget and prepares business plans.
We not only manage extensive forests across the 93,000 Ha of public land in the East, but we also work with renewable energy developers, restore peatland and care for nationally important recreation sites. These various activities generate around £22.5m of income for the region.
This is an exciting time for FLS; we are developing and improving the business to become more financially self-sustaining and commercial, to secure delivery of environmental, social and economic benefits for Scotland. We start from a strong base, with over 80% of our costs covered by commercial income, mainly from timber sales and leases for renewable energy. In addition, we receive funding from the Scottish Government, for example to restore peatland. We now need to grow our income and reduce our costs to become financially sustainable over the next three years. We aim to be profitable on our commercial activities and achieve full cost recovery on our equally important wider public benefits (e.g. recreation, natural capital).
To be successful in this role applicants will possess strong commercial acumen and business skills along with experience of leading large multidiscipline teams. A degree or professional qualification in land management, business management or another relevant subject is essential.
If you would like a career that has a strong sense of purpose, relish the challenge of leading a team through change, and think you have the drive, skills and experience we need, we would like to hear from you.
