Job description

Goldcrest Land & Forestry Group is an independent partnership of Chartered Surveyors and Chartered Foresters, based in Edinburgh and acting for clients with forestry and land throughout the UK. Our work spans sales and acquisitions, Red Book valuations, asset management, woodland carbon and natural capital projects, and grant scheme work. We are now looking for a Senior Forester / Asset Manager to join our forestry asset management team.

The role is a senior, client-facing one with breadth. You will take day-to-day responsibility for a portfolio of client’s forests, setting and delivering management strategy, budgeting and reporting to owners, appointing and overseeing contractors and forest managers, and driving value through harvesting, restocking, grant schemes and carbon projects. You will work closely with our sales, acquisitions and valuation teams, and there is scope to shape how the asset management side of the business grows.

The portfolio is UK-wide with its main focus in Scotland, so a working knowledge of Scottish Forestry grant and felling regimes, UKFS and the Woodland Carbon Code is valuable. We would expect candidates to bring solid post-qualification experience in forest management, strong commercial judgement, confidence dealing directly with owners and investors, and a full clean driving licence. Experience of Peatland Code, natural capital or valuation work would be an advantage but is not essential.

Candidates should be chartered or working towards chartered status with the Institute of Chartered Foresters or RICS. Salary is £70,000–£85,000 depending on experience, with higher or lower packages available for the right candidate, and we are happy to discuss the shape of the role for someone with the right background.
