Job description

We are looking for an experienced and strategic forestry professional to join us as a Senior Forestry Consultant taking responsibility for the successful delivery of a portfolio of high-impact woodland and habitat restoration projects across the Highland region.

This is a pivotal role where you will oversee all aspects of project delivery, lead cross-functional teams of talented foresters, and ensure that projects meet the high standards we set for ourselves and our clients. You will play a central role in translating vision into reality – from planning to on-the-ground implementation – ensuring our core values are embedded at every step.

You’ll directly manage and mentor a small team of Inverness-based foresters, steer technical decision-making, and support project coordination. This role reports directly to Gordon Brown, CEO & Co-Founder.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead a team of foresters and support staff to deliver exceptional woodland and habitat projects
  • Provide technical leadership across all stages of project planning, budgeting and delivery
  • Act as the senior contact for clients, partners, contractors and stakeholders
  • Guide and support foresters in their professional development and day-to-day performance
  • Coordinate with colleagues to scope, price and plan new work
  • Monitor progress using Asana project management software and ensure delivery to time and budget
  • Conduct regular project reviews and support adaptive management where needed
  • Champion TreeStory’s Woodland Charter and values in every stage of project implementation

Key qualities

  • Preference for working for an ambitious, purpose driven start up rather than a well-established corporate company
  • Connect deeply with the work and core values of TreeStory Ltd, passionate about making a positive environmental impact as well as the B-Corp ethos of business as a force for good
  • Keen to adopt innovative ways of working and think outside the box. Not afraid to push the boundaries of current knowledge, understanding and standard practice
  • Committed to continual learning & development and prepared to experiment
  • A motivated team player, keen to help and encourage all team members
  • Not intimidated by learning new technology, a keen adopter of technological tools to help us do our work. Proficiency in the following tools would be ideal: Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, Zoom, Asana, QGIS
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Understand the importance of good communication to our brand
  • Enjoy the challenge of adapting well laid plans to connect with the real world. Demonstrate great attention to detail and be able to accurately anticipate consequences and knock-on effects
  • At least 5 years’ post-qualification experience in forestry
  • Have a demonstrable background in and passion for regenerative forest management
  • Be a professional member of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or be working towards professional membership
  • A full UK driving license is essential

Key benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Monthly car allowance paid in addition to salary
  • Enhanced holiday provision
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Opportunity to attend TS Learn Regenerative Forestry training programme, taught by Dr Jens Haufe Link
  • Company pension scheme with 10% employer pension contribution
  • Flexible working patterns including hours and hybrid options
  • Sustainable travel policy including extra days for sustainable travel methods
  • Excellent personal and career development opportunities
