Job description

RTS Forestry are seeking a Senior Harvesting and Marketing Manager to lead the company’s’ timber harvesting activities across Central and Southern Scotland. We hold a unique place in the timber market, independently supplying all major end users with round timber from both retained Estates and private purchases/negotiations. The annual volume marketed by RTS Forestry H&M has grown year on year and the current bought forward position is positive. It is expected that the successful candidate will continue this development of the company’s’ performance.

The role will provide a wide range of opportunities and challenges to the successful candidate. You will be expected to operate independently, trading with multiple end users across different locales to continue the company’s’ growth in both annual harvesting volume and profitability. You will work unencumbered by a requirement to utilise specific company contractors/hauliers, without supply quotas defined centrally and with the full autonomy to negotiate with all end users. We anticipate that this freedom to operate is what will attract the type of candidate that will thrive within the role. In delivering this role you will be supported by a skilled Harvesting and Marketing Manager and administration team, with a desire from the Board for the RTS H&M team to continue to grow to meet the requirements of an increasing order book. You will report directly to the RTS Forestry Joint Managing Director Ross Kennedy. In addition to conventional harvesting RTS Forestry are the forefront of the delivery of forestry clearance for Infrastructure (windfarms, hydro, pump storage and grid connection) projects operating nationwide.

The successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to contribute to the marketing of volume resulting from these projects without a specific requirement to contribute day to day on these complex projects of scale, this averages well in excess of 100,000tpa. While RTS Forestry has seen significant growth in recent years with 57 employees and turnover in excess of £33M, the senior team remains as a small and thereby focused group responsible for all aspects of the business. The successful candidate will join this team and be given the opportunity to contribute across all the company’s activities as we continue the growth of the business. At RTS Forestry, we value the unique skills and talents of each team member. We’re committed to supporting your professional growth, including assisting you in gaining membership in the Institute of Chartered Foresters and other relevant professional bodies. We provide and encourage continued professional development in areas that align with your specific interests.

Changing roles is always a significant decision and we welcome the opportunity to explain in detail what RTS Forestry can provide. Please contact us for a fully confidential chat to see if this role fits your plans and aspirations for your forestry career.
