THE ROLE

The Site Manager at Loch Arkaig will manage the restoration of the Woodland Trust’s largest ancient woodland restoration site – Loch Arkaig Pine Forest. Supported by a site-based line manager, the Estate Manager for Loch Arkaig, the Site Manager will contribute to achieving this vision by managing the restoration of this ancient Caledonian pinewood in collaboration with the Woodland Trust’s Loch Arkaig Pine Forest Project Team and Arkaig Community Forest.

You will work closely with Trust colleagues involved in communications, demonstration and fundraising elements of the project and other work in the Saving Scotland’s Rainforest Treescape to ensure we leverage a range of opportunities to engage and benefit people, wildlife and the Trust’s work.

The position is home based and you need to be within reasonable travelling distance of Loch Arkaig. A site based office space is available if required.

THE CANDIDATE

You’ll have experience in managing native woodlands with a passion for ancient woodland restoration, you’ll demonstrate vision and attention to detail, along with a good working knowledge of forestry and land management practices, allowing you to understand and engage with landowners and their representatives.

You’ll have experience managing contractors starting with the tendering process and ensure health and safety is carried out on site including tree safety inspections, risk assessments and implementation of work. You’ll have the ability to carry out woodland condition assessments and a variety of ecological surveys for different habitats and species. Professional membership of the Institute of Chartered Foresters or another relevant professional body is desirable.
