Exmoor National Park Authority is incredibly fortunate to own and manage a 575 ha woodland estate in the National Park, most of which can be characterised as Temperate Rainforest and which includes 2 National Nature Reserves, the spectacular and unique coastal woodlands and other sites of exceptional nature, landscape and heritage significance. We supply our own sawmill and workshop with timber from our own CCF managed woodlands, which is a model of sustainable management and resource use. We are also expanding our tree nursery where we currently produce 10,000 trees pa for planting projects on our own land and have plans to significantly increase tree cover on our and partners land.
We are looking for a Temperate Rainforest Recovery Officer to help us deliver our plans.
Candidates should:
- be chartered or working towards chartered status,
- possess a degree or equivalent experience in Forestry, Environmental Science, Countryside Management, Ecology or Landscape Design/Management.
- Experience working within forestry, landscape conservation or countryside management
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent written communication skills (e.g., report writing, specifications)
- Experience of working with contractors
The main purpose of job is to:
- support temperate rainforest recovery and furthering National Park Purposes, by assisting in the management of Exmoor National Park Authority’s (ENPA) woodland estate.
- assist in the development of the 10-year Woodland Plan and Plan Operations for the ENPA Woodland Estate and delivery of key woodland projects including new temperate rainforest creation and expansion of the ENPA tree nursery.
- assist with initiatives on other private woodland in the National Park to build resilient, nature-rich and productive woodlands which contribute to Exmoor’s special qualities and the National Park Management Plan.
