Job description

SLM Partners is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Forestry Asset Manager to lead the management of a new investor mandate focused on Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF) in commercial conifer forests and afforestation projects, principally across Scotland. This is a rare opportunity to apply your forestry, operational, and financial expertise to build and manage a portfolio of high-quality natural capital assets that deliver both strong financial returns and measurable environmental impact.

About SLM Partners

SLM Partners is an investment manager deploying institutional capital into regenerative land management strategies globally. In the UK, we will focus on transitioning commercial forests to Continuous Cover Forestry silviculture, developing new mixed-species woodlands, and integrating natural capital and carbon income streams alongside timber production.

Key responsibilities

  • Build a portfolio of forestry assets through multiple acquisitions to deliver competitive financial returns, improved climate change resilience, enhanced carbon sequestration and biodiversity outcomes
  • Develop and implement management plans aligned with SLM’s CCF and afforestation strategy
  • Identify and deliver new afforestation projects meeting investment criteria
  • Oversee the work of forest managers to deliver high-quality operations
  • Prepare budgets, valuations, and performance reports for investors
  • Ensure compliance with UKFS, UKWAS, and environmental regulations
  • Engage effectively with local stakeholders and regulators

 

Skills and experience

  • Degree in Forestry, Environmental Management, or related discipline
  • Proven experience managing forestry acquisitions and assets, ideally with CCF exposure
  • Knowledge of UK forestry regulations, grant schemes, and certification standards
  • Strong financial and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Proficiency in GIS and Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Scotland/wider UK
