The Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) has partnered with Forestry Commission England (FCE) to deliver a UKFS Principles – Plans into Practice workshop, at a series of locations across England this November. This workshop will update practitioners, with particular focus on developing operational plans, helping to ensure they meet UKFS on the ground. In addition, delegates will understand how the new Service Standard between them and the Forestry Commission England will affect their business.
The workshop will address key updates in the 2017 UKFS review and how these will impact on the industry, businesses and jobs. It will show the effect changes will have on sites that include SSSIs (Sites of Special Scientific Interest), PAWS (Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites) and EPS (European Protected Species).
Speaking in advance of the workshops, event speaker Neville Elstone MICFor, Director of Cumbria Woodlands, discussed the importance of the new approvals process for management plans. He said:
“Getting your management plans right, first time, every time will reward you with guaranteed shorter approvals. This new scheme rightly rewards the forestry professional who is working to a high standard. That has to be a good thing.”
Steve Fowkes, Adviser, Business & Markets at FCE, said:
“These events offer a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of operational planning in relation to UKFS, while interacting with contemporaries and FC staff, in addition to accessing the latest information on woodland creation, forest research, tree health and other essential professional matters.”
